Through its Friendship Cafes, Piedmont Senior Resources provides one nutritious meal a week to senior citizens in a group setting who are not able to obtain a well-balanced diet, due to physical, social, or financial limitations.  In conjunction with the meal, weekly activities and services are provided in a group setting at a local community or senior citizen center.  Friendship Cafes are provided in each of the localities PSR serves.

Eligibility

Congregate Nutrition Services are targeted to persons 60 years of age or older. Priority is given to older individuals with greatest economic and social need, with special emphasis on low- income minority individuals, older individuals with limited English proficiency, older persons residing in rural or geographically isolated areas, and older individuals at risk for institutional placement.

In addition to meeting established eligibility, individuals must be mobile, not homebound, and physically, mentally, and medically able to attend a congregate meals program.

The recipient’s spouse, regardless of age or disability, is also eligible for the meal.

Other eligible persons, including individuals with disabilities who are not older individuals but who reside in housing facilities occupied primarily by older individuals at which congregate nutrition services and individuals with disabilities, regardless of age, who reside at home with and accompany older eligible individuals to the congregate site.
