For the sixth consecutive year, Piedmont Senior Resources Area Agency on Aging (PSR) is partnering with Meals on Wheels of America in the 2021 Subaru Share the Love Event.
Letterpress Communications, a Farmville-based public relations firm, founded by Ilsa Loeser, will be the lead sponsor of this year’s Event.
To kick off the Event, PSR begin collecting items for their Senior Bags on Monday, Nov. 15 during normal business hours from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at their offices at 1413 South Main Street in Farmville.
“Similar to last year, this ‘pandemic’ edition of the Share the Love Event will definitely look different for those who donate, pack, advocate, and how we deliver,” said PSR Director of Nutrition and Transportation Thomas Jordan Miles III. “We will be, depending on the COVID-19 numbers, masked up and employing social distancing measures through this process, including during our packing event, which will be held in December at the former Habitat for Humanity ReStore location in The Shoppes at College Park beside PSR’s Office.”
Anyone who brings in donations or participates in the packing event should wear a facemask and practice social distancing.
In addition to monetary donations to purchase needed items for our older adults, PSR is in need of non-perishable food items, along with toiletries, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand towels, shampoo, lotion, blankets, etc.
Just as PSR has done in years past, the donated items will be packed by staff and volunteers, and then delivered to home-bound and isolated seniors during the week before Christmas in December.
“Because of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, we now have well over 600 seniors who depend daily on our services who will benefit from the 2021 Subaru Share the Love Event, and they will receive a basket of staples for Christmas they can use,” Miles said. “We know and have been told that often, this is the only gift they may receive during the holiday season, and we have seen how the ongoing COVID-19 has directly impacted the overall health of older adults.”
Meals on Wheels America provides leadership to more than 5,000 local, community-based programs dedicated to fighting hunger and isolation among our nation's homebound seniors. Each donation from Subaru supports the nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that enable seniors to continue living nourished lives in their own homes. Over the past 13 years, the Subaru Share the Love Event has helped deliver more than $2.5 million meals to America's seniors.
Local Meals on Wheels programs such as PSR’s provide daily nutritious meals, nourishing companionship and critical safety checks to America's homebound seniors. Each donation helps these programs enable seniors to age with independence and dignity in their own homes, where they want to be.
