Piedmont Senior Resources Area Agency on Aging, Inc. provides supportive services and advocates for persons 60 years of age and older. The agency is a private, non-profit agency serving residents of Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward Counties.
PSR provides home delivered meals, congregate meals at senior centers in each county, homemaker aid services, legal services, insurance counseling, patient advocacy, referral services and minor home repair and other services designed to help seniors lead independent lives, and remain safely in their homes.
Each jurisdiction appoints a representative to the Board of Directors to provide input and govern the agency. The Advisory Council serves as a link between the agency and the elderly. The council is made up of senior citizens, other service agencies and interested individuals. Together, the Board of Directors and Advisory Council assists in assessments of current needs and services and recommendations for improvements and follow-up assessments.
The agency is funded primarily through the Older Americans Act. Funding is also received from other sources, including local counties and donations from corporations, small businesses and individuals.
PSR has assisted seniors in the Piedmont Health District 14 since 1978, and provides a variety of services, including advocacy, health and nutrition, home-delivered meals, in-home services, caregiver support, information and referral, Medicare guidance and legal services. The district is comprised of the following counties: Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward. Of the 104,000+ citizens that reside in the district, 11.66 percent of the population, or 12,195 residents, are age 60 and older. During 2015, PSR directly served 1,600 residents. Services are provided to seniors from all socioeconomic backgrounds. PSR has 42 employees, nine of whom are full-time.
Our mission is to care with compassion and integrity for older persons in need and whose dignity is jeopardized by a society that is not always protective, understanding, or interested.
Our vision is to provide services and resources that address the needs of seniors and allow them to live independently and safely in their own homes.
